Getting started

  1. Open Spotify on your Mac and play something.
  2. Open EQForge and press the power button.
  3. The first time, macOS asks to allow audio recording. Choose Allow — EQForge needs it to process Spotify’s sound. Nothing is recorded.
  4. Pick a genre or drag the equalizer curve. Your settings are remembered.

Requires macOS 15 or later (Apple silicon or Intel) and the Spotify app for Mac.

Common questions

There’s no sound, or EQForge shows “no audio”.

Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and turn on EQForge. (This is macOS’s name for audio-recording access; EQForge never uses the microphone.) Then press power in EQForge again, and make sure Spotify is playing.

Spotify got quiet or muted.

Press the power button to turn EQForge off, or quit EQForge. Spotify’s normal sound comes straight back.

It’s too loud or the sound distorts.

Lower Volume boost, and keep Prevent clipping turned on.

How do I start over?

Press Reset to return every band and effect to its default.

Does EQForge change Spotify?

No. It doesn’t modify Spotify or its files. It only processes Spotify’s audio while it’s switched on.

Does it work with other apps?

No — EQForge is made for the Spotify app for Mac. It doesn’t affect any other sound on your Mac.

Is my data collected?

No. See the EQForge privacy policy.
